The Name Whisper Wind

The Name Whisper Wind

There are a lot of similarities in both Seth’s and my background, including strange coincidences in the name of our mothers, aunts and grandparents and how we have known the same people in our lives but not each other until our 30’s.  How we decided on the name Whisper Wind for our gallery was because of another shared experience growing up.

Seth’s Whispering Wind

Seth grew up on the south shore of Nova Scotia and spent more time in the ocean than he did any where else.  He grew up listening to the wind rustle through the dune grass as he played on the beach and always described it as a wind whispering.  Later in life, his first son without knowing his father’s description, leaned in one day and told Seth that the wind was whispering to them.

Janna’s Whispering Wind

As a child, I attended a local day camp every year (Camp Wegesegum) and at the end of the camp week was an overnight sleepover where we were expected to attend an evening vespers service. As we waited for the service to start, everyone took time to sit and listen to the wind whispering through the tall pine trees.  (This was probably the only quiet time for the night!) I think for all campers, it was an important sound; for me it likely was my first centering experience.  I always felt a little more grounded after listening to the wind whisper through the pine trees.

Our Whispering Wind

The house we first lived in together had tall red pines across the road and we would sit on the deck listening to the familiar sound from our childhoods while planning for our future together.  It was during one of these chats, we discovered the wind had been whispering to both of us for quite some time.

The Whisper Wind has always been talking to the two of us, so it was time to acknowledge its presence in our life.
